How to import your data & metrics into Google Sheets

Out of Dark lets you monitor how people are engaging with your touchpoints and business activities in real time by importing data and metrics from apps like Facebook, Google Analytics, Looker Studio, and many more into your journey via Google Sheets.

  1. Launch Google Sheets in your web browser.Screenshot 2024-07-19 at 12.04.19 PM

  2. Install the add-onScreenshot 2024-07-19 at 12.06.11 PM

Install the appropriate add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace.

Click on Extensions in the top menu and select Add-ons -> Get add-ons. Then use the search bar to find the add-on specific to your app (e.g., “Zendesk", "Coefficient", "GA4 Reports Builder"). Select the desired add-on from the search results and follow the prompts to install and authorize it.Screenshot 2024-07-19 at 12.07.55 PM

Most add-ons from the Google Workspace Marketplace are free to install and use, but some third-party extensions like Coefficient, Supermetrics, or Coupler do require a subscription.

  3. Launch the add-on

Once you’ve installed your add-on, go back to Extensions and launch it.

  4. Connect to your app

In the sidebar that appears, follow the prompts to connect your Google Sheets to the desired app. You will likely be asked to log in to your app account and authorize access.Screenshot 2024-07-19 at 12.09.59 PM

  5. Configure Data Import

Choose the type of data you want to import (e.g., contacts, metrics, tickets) and set the parameters for your data import. These could include a date range where you define the start and end dates for the data you want to import, numerical data, or data categories that are relevant to your report.

  6. Import Your Data

Initialize the import to fetch the data from your app into Google Sheets. The data will populate in a new tab or the selected cells in your spreadsheet.

  7. Automate Data Refresh (Optional):

Many apps let you schedule imports to help automate the process. If supported, you can set up an automatic data refresh schedule to keep your data up-to-date and configure the refresh frequency (e.g., hourly, daily, weekly) to suit your needs

  8. Data Format
Your data should ultimately look like this: the metric name = sheet name, the first column is the start date, the second column is the eventual end date, and the third column is the metric value for that time period.

Some add-ons like Coefficient, Supermetrics, or Coupler support many of the most common apps. This can be useful in reducing the number of add-ons you have to download in order to import your data. In some cases, apps will not have their own add-on and you will need to use one of the ones mentioned above, or another similar one. However the process for syncing these is completely the same.

If your prefer, you can also import your data to Google Sheets using apps like Zapier, Integromat (now Make), or Microsoft Power Automate.
